Marathon Matches

The longest match on record in the history of the U.S. Championships came on Sept. 12, 1992, when Stefan Edberg of Sweden and Michael Chang of the United States played for five hours and 26 minutes in the men's singles semifinals, before Edberg prevailed by a 6-7(3), 7-5, 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-4 margin. The second longest match on record at the US Open came on Sept. 2, 2004, when Sargis Sargsian of Armenia required five hours and nine minutes to defeat Nicolas Massu of Chile, 6-7(8), 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-4, in the second round.
